It all started when I was being an impatient 5 year old boy… Growing up I watched my dad repairing things, just watching in awe and it lead to my very first repair. I always wanted an electric pencil sharpener and when I saw one at a garage sale with my mom she bought it without testing it first. It didnt work.. I badgered my dad to help me fix it and he said “I will after I get out of the shower”. So naturally, while he was in the shower I grabbed a screwdriver, took the sharpener apart, twisted a broken wire together, reassembled it and got it working before my dad was done with his shower. That was when we knew that I had a gift of figuring things out.
My dad was a boat mechanic for 45 years, a damn good one and had the credentials to prove it. Starting as a young boy I started going to work with him and learning how to be a technician. I spent several summer days following him around and soaking up all the knowledge I could. By the age of 14 I knew I wanted to fix things for a living.
My first real job was working under my dad at a marina. He was the service manager and I was his number 3 mechanic. I worked that job for 2 summers and living in Northwest Ohio I was laid off every winter which made it hard to survive with an infant at home.
I moved to Alabama for a year and worked as the number 2 tech under my father in-law at his auto repair shop. The automotive knowledge I gained there and watching him run a business made me realize that I wanted to run my own place like him.
I moved back home and started working at a mom and pop transmission and auto repair shop as a number 2 technician. After a year I was moved up to a number 1 technician where I stayed for 3 years. I left there and became GM Certified and was the high performance technician for a local Chevrolet dealer. I spent a year there when I got a call from an old friend…
The call was unexpected, but absolutely was not going to turn the offer down. A mechanic 1 position opened at Sunbelt Rentals and I jumped all over it. The experience and knowledge I gained at Sunbelt was something my brain needed, the missing link if you will. I absolutely fell in love with repairing and maintain contractor equipment, heavy equipment, and industrial tools. I spent 6 years as a field service technician driving a big service truck around from job site to job site. I loved my job, however this chapter was about to close and another was going to be written, unbeknownst to me.
An outside sales rep position opened at my Sunbelt location and I jumped on it. I spent 4 years in the sales position and I loved it. I met so many people and had a lot of fun, however after a few years the link started missing again. I was missing my purpose, I was missing what I was supposed to do with my life. That missing link was making broken things work. I needed it back, and with that I knew it was time for this chapter to closed and another to opened.
I will never regret nor not give praise for the opportunities Sunbelt gave me, but that missing link was still there. The drive to own my own mechanic business still was there. I saved money and bought a service truck then left Sunbelt to go out on my own.
My goal with this is to build an empire and leave this business to my 4 children. I want to pave their future, give them something to look forward to and have the stones already laid for them. I want to have the ability of taking them to work with me the same way my dad with me.
At Redmark, I stand behind my work. If you're not completely satisfied with our services, we'll do everything we can to make it right.
